Let me just start out by saying that I am notorious for never leaving my kids. I am with them 24/7. In all reality, I hardly even have a babysitter, and if I do, it’s usually my mom. This summer I got invited to a bloggers’ getaway in Nashville with 10 other ladies who do the same type of work that I do. I knew that I wanted to go, but I was instantly nervous about leaving my girls even though I’d only be gone about 52 hours (since I couldn’t make it the first day. Well, I did it and my girls survived (even Sailor who struggles big time with separation anxiety when away from me). Daddy had it under control. I came back refreshed in business, laughter, and motherhood AND that is what inspired me to do this girls’ staycation/vacation in OKC!
For me, everything was here in my own city, but for my gal pals, it was a short drive coming from Wichita and Salina, KS. They hopped in the car Saturday morning and made it to Oklahoma City by lunch time.
None of us had ever been to this hot spot in town, but it was highly rated and close to our next stop so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the shrimp taco pictured above and it was absolutely delicious. The ground beef tacos, queso, and guacamole were also big hits. After lunch, we headed on over for our river rafting appointment at Riversport OKC. Two of the girls had done it before and myself and one other had not. Being a super adventurous, up for anything type of person, I was so excited about this part of our weekend. I loved that it was all controlled and I didn’t have a fear of anything bad happening. The river totally kicked our rears, but in an effort to make the most of our day, we following up our time river rafting with some time zipping down the big slides, rock climbing, and jumping on the giant bounce pillow!

Stay @ The Colcord Hotel From the second we pulled up to The Colcord Hotel, we were all impressed. Not only is the building beautiful, but we were immediately greeted by friendly valet drivers and a smiling face at the front desk. The girl kindly asked us if we had a floor preference which we all agreed that the top (12th) floor would showcase the best view of downtown OKC (aka Bricktown).
We purposefully arrived a few hours before dinner so that we had plenty of time to wash our hair from the day in the river and time to relax. It was such a treat to find super soft robes hanging in the closet. I don’t know about you, but I love myself a nice, cozy robe to lounge and get ready in.
We, of course, snapped a picture. After taking in the view, enjoying each other’s company, and getting ready, we spent a few minutes exploring the beautiful lobby. The 12 story building was completed in 1910 making it the first skyscraper in Oklahoma City. This landmark was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. A lot of the original marble,
If you want GOOD food, this is the place to go in Oklahoma. We wanted somewhere in the Bricktown area, close to our hotel, and with a cool atmosphere. Toby Keith’s nailed it. We started off with chips and queso that we demolished within minutes. Our house salads came next, and I love a good salad, but the RANCH was where it was at.
We were all super thankful that we worked off so many calories river rafting because all of the food that we ate at Toby Keith’s. We couldn’t help it. Everything was so good. I especially loved the catfish on my plate… possibly the best fried catfish that I’ve had.
And…. of course, I couldn’t leave without dessert. I almost wish I wouldn’t started with it. It was absolutely mouth watering good. We shared the brownie with ice cream and the fried ice cream. I’ve heard since how good their buttermilk cream pie is and I’ve wanted to go back since to try it. To check out their menu or locations, you can click HERE
Brunch @ Flint OKCAfter enjoying coffee and tea in our room, we headed downstairs where we enjoyed brunch at Flint OKC right in the hotel.
Everything was set up so cute. It was such a beautiful and quiet atmosphere to enjoy some relaxing girl talk AND for me to drink more coffee. Did I mention that I love coffee? And their coffee there was so so good.
I, of course, ordered French Toast like I always do at brunch and everything was right in my world. After filling up, we grabbed our bags and set off for a little treat before wrapping up our girls’ weekend.
Let me just tell you that this is one of the cutest darn shops EVER. Their decor is crazy cute here and they sell a huge variety of items. They have clothing, every candy you can think of, gift items, fresh bakery items, and more.
We HAD to take the time to snap a photo on the giant pink horse… it was way too cute not to! We all grabbed some treats for ourselves and for our husbands and some of us for our kids before saying our goodbyes.
All in all, we had such a great weekend. It flew by way too quick, but that just gives us an excuse to do it again soon. If you’re ever in OKC, be sure to check out some of my favorite places including the Bricktown Riverwalk shown in the picture below. There are so many fun places to see and things to do right here in Oklahoma.
Disclosure: We were hosted at most of the places above, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
