San Antonio at The JW Marriott

Remember that one weekend? No, “Remember the Alamo!”

So if you have been following for a hot minute, you know we travel likes it’s my job.. well it kinda is and I love it. Presley really, really, really wanted to swim with dolphins for her 8th birthday so we were bound and determined to make that happen. The closest place to turn that dream into a reality was Sea World in San Antonio, so Tuesday evening my husband and I set out to plan a last minute trip leaving that Thursday night (yes, two days from when we decided to go).

I had been to San Antonio growing up but the other three Gilmartins had never been there. We hit the road that Thursday night after cheer practice ended and stopped in the Dallas area long enough to catch some “z’s” and grab a quick In-N-Out Burger (Anthonys not so secret obsession second to Buc-ee’s). We are BIG Marriott fans so we decided to stay at a Fairfield overnight. We jumped up in the morning, enjoyed our continental breakfast (because who doesn’t love free breakfast and set out on the road again.

I must be wearing off on Anthony in my love off cool pit stops on road trips because about an hour into our day, he just pulls off the highway without saying anything and I look up to see the Silos of Waco aka Magnolia Market. Say, What?!?!

We pit-stopped for about an hour to enjoy this slice of heaven in Waco via the Gains family. We toured the property, ran across the beautiful open areas, took shameless selfies, and of course, toured the store and bakery before we had to keep truckin’. I got a sweet coffee mug and brand new tee to remind me that we needed to plan another weekend trip and stay in Waco.

Our trip down to San Antonio was only about seven hours total in a car one-way. I suddenly look up as we pulled up to our amazing resort.. I just said we are hardcore followers of Marriott… but this resort bumped the brand up a couple more notches. The J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is located on the North side of San Antonio. The valet that greeted as was extremely welcoming as was the bellman. They took care of everything from the second that they opened our car door.

As we walked into the grand open area of the hotel to check-in, we were swiftly checked into our room and off on the elevator to do another rendition of #lexinelevators (if you follow along on Instagram then you know what I mean).

As soon as we walked into our room, the girls instantly ran to the balcony that over-saw the resort’s amazing water park but Anthony and I also noticed the rolling hills and amazing PGA course. As we were in awe of the view, we heard a knock! We hadn’t been in our room for more than five minutes before our bags arrived. Talk about service right?

Shortly after our bags arrived, I headed off to check out more of the resort (spa, restaurants, stores, golf course, etc) as Anthony and the girls ran downstairs for a quick bite and swimming! The entire main pool was just deep enough that Sailor could touch anywhere she was, which was a relief to Anthony.

After I joined back with them, Presley and I tackled the tube slides a couple of times while Sailor and Anthony enjoyed the water a bit longer until we got back to him.

After that, Anthony and Presley tackled the the really tall slides, which I couldn’t keep them away from but it was cool because Sailor and I got the chance to hang out in the little kid area that included small slides, shallow water, and lots of sprayers.

Later we spent some time at the man made beach that sported another zero entry pool. They had it all. While Anthony and I didn’t get to enjoy the adults only pool, we did get to catch a glimpse of that phenomenal infinity edge pool that over looked the same hills and PGA course I just raved about.

After we hit the room to dry off for a minute, we changed clothes and dropped down to High Velocity, which was their on-property sports bar. They had huge screens and projectors everywhere but that’s not why were were there.

They had a kid’s buffet, say what??? I wanted to be a kid for the night because of the options on there. It was a full buffet for littles that had everything from corn dogs to rice krispy treats. I enjoyed an amazing quesadilla but the hamburger connoisseur next to me said that the “Green Chili Poblano” burger was a top three hamburger for him. If you know Anthony, he knows tacos and burgers. So we are full, you would think after a long day of swimming and traveling, that we would tap out and go to bed.. you thought wrong.

The resort was hosting a smores night and its was the bees knees y’all. The staff handed you a metal stick with a marshmallow, you walk over to the fire pit and roast it to your liking, then you walk back and they make it right there for you. All you have to do is roast the marshmallow and enjoy.

Between dinner and the desert, it had us feeling refreshed and we were running around the course, watching the sun go down.

Honestly, we live life to the fullest, and we were not quite ready to go to bed. We were going to catch “Flick & Float!” We went back to our room at dark to change back into new suits and head back down to water to hang in the main pool, float around and watch the movie of the night which was “Finding Dory!” How fitting is that because the whole reason we were in San Antonio was for sea life. We retired after the movie to lay our sleepy heads in the comfy beds of the beautiful resort.

I am a morning person that runs on coffee and Anthony is not a morning person that requires food. After we packed up and called down for bell service, we whisked downstairs to visit Cibolo Moon.

Featured Imageace and tall ceilings and hand blown glasses for drinks but y’all.. the food was amazing. Let’s be honest you kinda expect breakfast buffets to be just that.. a breakfast buffet. They had fresh fruits, meats, an omelet station, amazing hot coffee and Anthony’s favorite, carnitas street tacos! We enjoyed our coffee, omelets and tacos, while sitting outside, taking the sights in one more time before heading out to car in the valet area.

The girls & I even snuck in a few rounds of corn hole before we left.

We still have two full days to tackle and with our belly full and coffee running through our veins, we headed south into town. If you are ready to hear about The Alamo and day two.. check back tomorrow for another post.We sure do miss this place!
